Digital Wasteland

Digital Wasteland is a commentary on digital waste and the overconsumption of useless media. Biggers wanted to create a distressing visual landscape to signify the overwhelming and detrimental effect excessive media consumption has upon the consumer. Social media, “doomscrolling,” and the endless consumption of poorly made and quickly discarded imagery is an epidemic infecting the populace with apathy for the beautiful. Inspiration for this project came originally from a video game titled Getting Over It with Bennet Foddy by Bennet Foddy, which discusses digital waste and an article titled “The Spam of the Earth: Withdrawal from Representation” by Hito Steyerl. Steyerl suggests that the oversaturation of imagery devalues the images, therefore devaluing the things we take images of.
