Bio
Elizabeth Biggers is an emerging artist based in Spokane, Washington. Her work uses a blend of photography, writing and digital techniques to explore the intersection of the natural environment and how human society affects, and is affected, by it. Drawing from influences such as the Bauhaus, surrealism, and the straight photography of the early to mid 20th century, her pieces tackle themes of digital waste, environmental preservation and the tension between technology and nature. Through her work Biggers critiques the overwhelming presence of capitalism and consumerism in today's heated political climate calling for a greater respect, not only for the land but for each other. Biggers is pursuing a B.A. in Art History and a B.S. in Biology from Eastern Washington University.
Artist Statement
My artwork is a visual exploration of philosophical ideas. The work is not the final product but the path I took within myself to make it. Each project represents a new concept explored or perspective learned. I use photography as my pathfinder, marking out the edges of my thoughts as far as I can take them. Through my pictures I know where I've been when the time comes to bring my thoughts from the realm of the vague into the realm of the real. In any topic what I am primarily interested in is how we each perceive our world, while keeping in mind the lie of objectivity.
